Abstract:
To establish genetical markers predicting a higher risk for the development of non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) we carried out genetic and cytogenetic analysis on a group of 28 NIDDM patients aged 39-60 years. It was found that the percentage of HLA A26 carriers diabetics (17,85%) was three times higher than that of the control group of healthy subjects (6,73%). The diabetic HLA B18, DR1 and DR3 carriers showed twice as large a percentage in comparison to the control group of healthy subjects.
